The eagle tours take place the third and fourth weekends of January, begin at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and last 2.5 hours. The dates are Saturdays and Sundays, January 19-20 and 26-27, 2013.

Each Eagle Watch tour begins at the refuge visitors center on Route 148 with a brief overview of the species and what visitors might expect to see on the tour. The tours use the refuge's vans and travel to places where bald eagles have been visited in the past.

The public is invited to attend Duke Energy’s
annual eagle viewing days at the Cayuga Station. Most years, the area
around Cayuga Station hosts the largest concentration of mid-winter
migratory bald eagles in Indiana. More than 16,000 visitors have attended
over the past 11 years.
Duke Energy works with various state and federal agencies throughout
its service area to help protect threatened species by managing the
company’s assets to encourage precious habitats and nesting.
Duke Energy helped the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
reintroduce the bald eagle to the state. An active bald eagle nest
is located at the Gibson Generating Station in Gibson County, Indiana
and near the Wabash River Generating Station in Vigo County, Indiana.
In addition, there are two active bald eagle nests near the Cayuga
Generating Station in Vermillion County, Indiana. Duke Energy personnel
work in collaboration with the DNR to monitor and evaluate endangered
species found on or near its properties.

Each year as winter turns to spring, eagles migrate back to their nesting territories. Huge numbers of bald eagles use the Mississippi River as a flyway back north, stopping along the way to feast on fish as the ice recedes.
During the month of March, we celebrate this great eagle migration with our SOAR with the Eagles festival. SOAR with the Eagles takes place each weekend in March, with special events, guest presenters, artists and exhibitors, a raffle and more.

Other great viewing areas are located at Rockaway Beach, Missouri and the many resorts located along the lake to the east of Branson.

Clarksville, Missouri is one of the notable winter Bald Eagle watching spots in the Middle Mississippi River Valley due to its proximity to Locks and Dam #24, which keeps the water free of ice, enabling the eagles to find fish during the cold weather.
Every year Clarksville holds its annual Eagle Days on the last weekend of January. Naturalists from the Missouri Department of Conservation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the WBS set up spotting scopes, exhibits, children’s activities, and live eagle shows every hour on the hour to entertain and educate the public.

Bald Eagle & Waterfowl Tours: During the winter months Reelfoot Lake is home to approximately 200 American Bald Eagles and spectacular numbers of waterfowl. Experienced park naturalists lead daily bald eagle and waterfowl bus tours from early January through early March. Eagles can be seen perching, flying or soaring, and snatching a fish or waterfowl from the lake. Telescopes for viewing and intriguing information about the natural and cultural history of the wildlife and area are provided.
State Park Programs: Programs by invited guest speakers or park staff are offered every Saturday night during the winter eagle season. These programs cover a wide variety of themes such as bald eagles, Reelfoot Lake, photography, history, other interesting topics, and live birds of prey demonstrations. Live birds of prey exhibits offer visitors an opportunity to view up close these magnificent creatures and to learn of their importance in nature.
Bald Eagle Festival (Feb 1, 2, 3, 2013)
Guided bus and van tours will be offered twice a day at the rate of $5 per person to view the majestic Bald Eagles nesting, soaring, or possibly locking talons in courtship. Reelfoot Lake features one of the largest populations of Bald Eagles outside of Alaska.
Saturday night will feature a live Birds of Prey program with John Stokes. John is well known for flying birds of prey over the audience. The Eagle Festival will have a variety of programs available for all ages: art & photography contest, storytelling, eagle mascot available for pictures, silent auction & arts & craft vendors. Other displays and live birdsof prey can be seen throughout the day. Free tote bag.
